Cooking Assistant University of Hawaii at Manoa - Honolulu, HI
I volunteered as a cooking assistant for Chef Mark Segobiano, who is the instructor for DPD classes such as the Chemical Nature of Food, Restaurant and Club Management, Quantity Foods and Institutional Purchasing and Marketing Nutrition and Food. Chef Mark caters many University of Hawaii events and seeks student cooking assistants who have had experience cooking in one of his classes. As a cooking assistant, I prepared a variety of desserts, pasta entrees, salads, soups and breads for his FSHN 141 Culture and Cuisine course and Nepal Plate Lunch Fundraiser. Volunteering with Chef Mark gave me valuable hands on experience and enabled me to become comfortable working in a larger kitchen.
Foodservice Worker Bowles Burritos - Kailua,HI
Bowles Burritos is a small open kitchen restaurant that features a build your own burrito bar. In this particular setting, I was able to perform a wide variety of tasks. Throughout my shifts, I prepared and cooked steak, chicken, pork and grilled vegetables, and assembled various food items such as burritos, tacos, nachos and salads according to customer's requests. I cashiered and calculated tips. I was also responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen, dishes and silverware. This experience not only provided me with foodservice experience, but customer service as well. I learned how to appropriately react and respond to difficult or upset customers.
